Sounds painful, but it’s quite the opposite. The term “pounding” comes from a long tradition of helping newly arrived called workers. Congregational members would donate a “pound” of household necessities such as flour, sugar, coffee, canned food, etc. A “pounding” is a way to welcome and help our new called church workers who are arriving in July.
We are expanding our pounding to include pantry items, cleaning supplies, and gift cards. Listed below are items that we are asking members of Faith Lutheran Church and School to donate for our three new called workers, Katie Onnen, Emily Brenner, and Gerald Brenner. The items requested are posted on the back-narthex windows. Just take one or more of the posted items, return with the items, and place them in the storage bins below the notes. (Gift cards will be collected from the bins each week and kept in the school office until given to the called workers.) It’s quite simple, but it will make a world of difference in making Katie, Emily, and Gerald feel welcomed at Faith.
Please join with us in making our new called worked feel at home and a part of our Faith family.

Seventy-five years ago, Dan West began outlining a simple but groundbreaking plan to help the hungry. West, a Midwestern farmer and Church of the Brethren member, had recently returned from volunteer service in the Spanish Civil War where his job was to provide weary refugees with a single cup of milk. He knew American farmers had resources many others did not: cows and the steady supply of nutrition from their milk.
This “not a cup, but a cow” thought was the driving force behind West founding Heifer International. Now, 75 years later, the “teach a man to fish” philosophy still inspires our work to end world hunger and poverty once and for all and has transformed the lives of millions.
Heifer works to empower families:
The core of their model is Passing on the Gift. This means families share the training they receive, and pass on the first female offspring of their livestock to another family. This extends the impact of the original gift, allowing a once impoverished family to become donors and full participants in improving their communities.
The goal of every Heifer project is to help families achieve self-reliance. They do this by providing the tools needed to sustain themselves, and it's thanks to the generosity of donors like you.

Come help us find out as we fill 500 lunch bags for MUST Summer Lunch Program with everything but the sandwich. Thanks to Thrivent, we are able to buy everything for the bags. But we need your help to fill them. Bring the family. There’s something everyone can do. Give your children a chance to be involved in service to our community.
FRIDAY, JUNE 28TH, 10-12 IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM
We may also need help in delivering them to MUST, so if you’re available, please hang around afterward.

“People with Alzheimer’s or dementia often tragically lose their short-term memory while the long-term memory continues. They may go back to the memories of the good old days. Those memories can bring peace and happiness. When the Holy Spirit, your perfect memory aid, reminds and re-teaches you everything about Jesus, He removes the bad memories of sin and punishment and fear. He replaces them with joy, confidence, hope, and forgiveness in Jesus. That results in a peace that goes beyond understanding and beyond this life.” Rev. Peter Sulzle, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, Minnesota – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org
