Faith Ladies Guild / LWML

Getting Involved

There are many opportunities for women to become involved in the life of the church while serving our Lord at Faith.

The Officers and Committee Chairs Board Meeting

  • Meet for monthly board meetings during the school year, usually on the second Saturday. All ladies are invited to attend these meetings. See the Church calendar for dates and times.

The Mite Box

  • Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke 21:1-4), the mite box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" - offerings above and beyond the support given to the congregation and synod. Mite box contributions fund District and National grants which are selected at the Conventions. Mites also help in implementing the LWML programs.
  • Mite Box Sunday - Occurs on the second Sunday of each month. Please place your mites in the big mite box at the front of the church during the offering on that Sunday or in the specially marked envelopes and add them to the offering plate. 100% of all the Mites we collect are sent to the LWML Florida/Georgia District. 25% of those Mites are forwarded on to the LWML National Headquarters. Contact one of the officers if you need a box.

General Service Circle Meeting with Dish & Dollar Luncheon

  • Meets the first Tuesday of every month, September through May, in various members' homes for a Bible Study and fellowship. Location is published in the weekly newsletter and online at Unite360.  A Dish & Dollar Luncheon follows which includes a wonderful variety of foods brought in by the ladies to share with one another along with a $2 donation to help pay the expenses for Faith delegates to attend LWML conventions. Anyone is welcome to join in the Meeting and/or the Luncheon. You don’t have to be a member and are welcome to bring a friend.
  • The General Service Circle is also in charge of assisting at Faith functions throughout the year.

Create in Me/Craft Workshop

  • Meets on Tuesdays (except when there is a General Service Circle Meeting), starting in January until mid-November, in the LWML room from 10:00am - 3:00pm. During this time, the women enjoy fellowship and develop the gifts God has given them. We work on quilts to sell or donate and make a wide variety of crafts to sell. Or you can bring in your own projects to work on. All levels of crafting skills are much appreciated!

The Wedding Committee

  • Works under the guidance of Pastor to coordinate the weddings that are performed at Faith. These ladies assist the bride in the physical aspects of the ceremony, attending rehearsals and the wedding.

The Decorations Committee

  • These ladies are responsible for special decorations throughout the church year, and for the Easter lilies and poinsettias.

Project Compassion

  • This group of ladies are responsible for implementing the wishes of the deceased's family by providing a luncheon after a funeral or memorial service. They also coordinate meals for congregational members with an injury, illness, new baby, etc.

  • National LWML Conventions are held in the odd numbered years, usually the last weekend in June. Location changes every time. Ladies from all over the country convene to join in worship, bible study, listen to guest speakers, elect officer and vote on the selection of mission grants that our Mite collection supports. We also collect specified items to donate to charities. It is a very up lifting four days.

Charlotte Travis Memorial Scholarship Fund

Charlotte was a member of Faith Lutheran beginning in 1962.  Her cheerful service at Faith included many hours as Chairman of Faith’s Guild, Chairman of the West Atlanta Zone and Board Member at large for the Florida-Georgia District.  In addition, she was a devoted Sunday School teacher, served on the Atlanta Girl Scouts Advisory Board and raised five children.

This scholarship fund was established by Faith Ladies Guild in 1988 to honor Charlotte Travis for her love of children, her interest in higher education, devotion to the Lord, and for her ongoing involvement and commitment to LWML.  It is to be administered by the Executive Board of Faith Ladies Guild/LWML, which consists of the Guild’s elected officers and those in appointed positions.

Eligibility Requirements:  Any person who is a member of Faith Lutheran Church and will be attending a Missouri Synod School to pursue a career in full-time ministry is eligible.

The amount per student will be determined yearly by the Executive Board of Faith Ladies Guild/LWML and will be sent directly to the school in the student’s name.  The Guild secretary will notify the student that funds have been sent.

If there are no candidates to receive funds for the year, the Faith Ladies Guild/LWML Executive Board will designate funds to be given to the FL-GA District Scholarship Fund and/or Faith Lutheran School Student Aid Program (tuition for members only).
